Robert H. "Mickey" Mac Farran

Robert H. “Mickey” Mac Farran passed away surrounded by his loving family leaving his loved and loving wife of 58 years, Nancy M. (Jackson) Mac Farran, a son Michael R. Mac Farran and Traci, a daughter Carrie A. Robinson and Mark, five loved grandchildren Michaela, Casey, Michael A., Jake and Bennett, a sister Jean E. Hildebrandt, and a large extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents Robert E. and Jane E. (Banta) Mac Farran.

He grew up in Ramsey, graduated from Ramsey High School, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Bergen County Police Academy, and the F.B.I. National Academy, Quantico, Virginia.  He served in the United States Army Military Police.  Retired as a Lieutenant from Mahwah Police Department, serving 26 years.

He was president of the Mahwah Youth Sports Boosters, coaching many teams of boys and girls, baseball, softball, soccer, and ice hockey.  He was a member and Chairman of the Mahwah Recreation Committee for many years.

He served as a bodyguard, personal security for President Richard Nixon.

For thirty years, Mickey was employed as the Dean of Students, School Security Officer and disciplinarian of Mahwah High School, where he talked to and taught life to many students.  He coached golf for many years, being voted “Coach of the Year” in 2008 by the Bergen County Golf Coaches Association.

Mickey enjoyed playing various sports over the years, softball and ice hockey in his early adult life and later golf with many relatives and friends, traveling to many golf locations with Nancy up and down the East Coast.  As a loving grandparent, he and Nancy could be seen at almost all of their grandchildren’s athletic sporting events and school functions.

The family will receive family and friends on Tuesday, April 23rd from 2-9 PM at Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Ave, Ramsey, NJ.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 24th at 10 AM at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 200 Wyckoff Ave, Ramsey, NJ.  Burial to follow at Union Cemetery, 316 Darlington Avenue, Ramsey, NJ.

The family has established the Robert H. “Mickey” Mac Farran Foundation to provide scholarships for future Mahwah graduates.
