Margaret T. Brown

April 9, 1928 ~ August 7, 2022 (age 94)

Obituary

Margaret T. Brown, born in New York City on April 9, 1928, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 7, 2022. Marge was the daughter of Francis and Nora (Quinn) Whelahan who immigrated to the United States from Ireland. After High School Marge became a successful model appearing in advertising and fashion magazines.

On Mach 16, 1974 she married John Brown in the Little Chapel at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, New York City, and lived on West 34th Street, New York City. Marge continued in the fashion industry as an office manager at Smart Modes and in sales at Barney’s New York. Marge was a true fashion icon always looking her best and taking pride in her keen sense of style. After John’s retirement, they moved to Vero Beach, Florida in 1989. Marge was involved in church and community activities and donated to many organizations. She worked at the Thrift Shop at the local hospital. She loved all their travels in Europe and Island tours and made frequent trips to the New York City theatre. Coming back to New York meant she could visit her sister, Lenore; brothers, John and Thomas, and many nieces and nephews. Not having a family of her own she loved her nieces and nephews like they were her children and remembered them on all their special occasions.

After her husband, John passed away she came back north to be closer to her family and moved to Sunrise of Cresskill in New Jersey in 2018. Marge made the adjustment to being back north quickly despite the New Jersey winters. It also helped that she made some new friends who welcomed her at bingo, shopping trips, and many fun activities. Marge loved all kinds of animals, especially birds. She would talk lovingly of the family puppy, Buster.

Marge was predeceased by her husband, John, her parents, Nora and Francis Whelahan and her younger sister Lenore Ann Devlin and her younger brother, Thomas P. Whelahan.

A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Saint Therese of Lisieux Church, 120 Monroe Ave, Cresskill, NJ 07626.
