Abdel Hamid Bouab, 79, of Upper Saddle River, died peacefully on October 17, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born to Fattouma and Taieb Bouab in Fes, Morocco. After spending his youth in Morocco, he traveled to France where he was educated in Paris and Toulous, culminating in the attainment of several PhD degrees.
As a Senior Economic Affairs Officer at the United Nations and fluent in six languages, he traveled to over 60 countries. There he worked at advancing the economies of developing nations. He was instrumental in helping to make these nations realize their responsibility in creating a better place for future generations. In addition, with the development of an educational foundation, he was able to bring opportunities of higher learning to many students he encountered along the way.
Well known, not only for his high intellect, but also for the devotion he showed his family, Hamid will be greatly missed He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sigrid (known by many for her ties to Iceland), his devoted children, Nabil (Dana) and Selim (Jennifer), his adored grandchildren, Acelan, Axel and Julien, his brothers, Jaouad, Ali and Rafi, his sister, Souad, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Mohammed and his sister, Lativa.
Burial was private and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
