Angelo Carapezza, CAV
Mahwah, Toms River and Garfield
A Cavaliere is a title of knighthood, abbreviated as CAV, awarded for achievement or service to the Italian Republic.
A celestial horseman sits atop a Pegasus before the gates of Heaven, and announces, “Make way, a Cavaliere enters!” And so Angelo entered eternal life on November 11, 2022. He joins his wife, Raffaela; and his lifelong friends, Pat and Connie Candela.
His life story is one of legend. Born in Agrigento, Sicily on March 8, 1930, he was the oldest of eight children. As a teenager on the island, he witnessed World War II firsthand. He joined the Italian Navy and became a frogman. He came to the United States in 1952, married and ran his own tile business for decades in Clifton. He was a loyal and longtime member of the Italian American Cooperative (the “Coop”) in Clifton. He founded the New Jersey chapter of the “Veterans of the Italian Navy” Club a/k/a “Marinai D’Italia Gruppo Alberti Banfi.”
Hunting in New York and crabbing with his grandchildren in Seaside were some of his favorite things; along with playing bocce and billiards.
He is survived by his daughter Josephine (Charles Rabolli) and son Angelo (Sandy); five grandchildren: Michael (Thea), Stefanie, Christina (Liem), Nicholas (Carlee) and Charles; three sisters, one brother and countless nieces and nephews, both here and in Italy.
He is in the care of Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey.
