Anthony (Tony) Peter Baldo, 94, of Mahwah, passed peacefully at Valley Hospital, Ridgewood, February 9, 2023 with his wife Anna, and daughter Suzanne by his side. Born in New York City in 1928, he and Anna moved to Ramsey in 1961. He started his own company, Anton Designs, and went on to create and plan the interiors of many leading retail businesses and offices throughout the metropolitan area.
Father of four, proud grandfather of three, and avid Giants and Yankees fan, Anthony played the saxophone, clarinet and piano while attending Juilliard, and later played clarinet in The West Point Band while attending the U.S. Military Academy.
Anthony’s love of music included his reverence for dance. In fact, not known for modesty, he considered himself one of the premier amateur ballroom dancers in Bergen County, along with his favorite dancing partner, wife Anna. At one point, he even served as a dance host at The Brownstone in Paterson. But his creative talents extended well beyond music and dance. He was a gifted artist, creating whimsical portraits of pets, graceful images of ballet dancers and nature, and memorable paintings of his beloved Giants.
Anthony was predeceased by his parents, Nicola and Giulia (Astore), and his siblings, Mary, Dominica, Nicholas, and Evelyn. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Anna Baldo of Mahwah; brother John Baldo of Hazlet; his children, Nicholas Baldo and wife Michelle D’Avolio of Wakefield, MA, Janise Baldo of Albuquerque, NM, Anthony Baldo, Jr. and wife Kathi Van Zandt of Middletown, and Suzanne Misseri of Waldwick; and his grandchildren, Eva Baldo of New York City, James Baldo of Los Angeles, CA, and Joseph Misseri of Waldwick.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM on Tuesday, February 14, with a service of remembrance to begin at 6:30 PM at Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home. Entombment will be 10:45 AM Wednesday, February 15 at Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah.
