Arthur A. Mende, Jr.

Arthur A. Mende Jr., formerly of Bergenfield, NJ, Ramsey NJ, and recently Fort Mills, SC, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2023 at the age of 88. Arthur was born on November 25, 1935 in Jersey City, N.J to the late Thekla (Grumbrecht) and Arthur A. Mende Sr. After graduating from Union Hill High School in Union City, NJ Arthur enlisted into the Army and was stationed at Fort Dix, Fort Drum and Fort Lee. Arthur had a successful career after leaving the Army and went on to work on Wall Street as a stock trader.

Arthur was active in many organizations throughout his life. He coached youth baseball in both Bergenfield and Ramsey and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. His love for sports was a constant throughout his life, even after retiring from coaching. An avid baseball and basketball fan, Arthur would always be ready to watch a Yankee game or North Carolina Tar Heels basketball game.

Arthur married Catherine (Misegades) and they celebrated 32 happy years together until her passing in 1988. He remarried Laura (Coviello) and the two resided in Fort Mills, South Carolina until his passing. Arthur was a beloved father to Brian (Genevieve), Paul (Catherine) and his late son Steven (Shirley) and grandfather to Danny (Taylor), Stacy, Caitlin (Ross), William (Holly), Lauren (Michael), Genesis, Kevin (Marissa), Craig (Arlene), Allison, Ryan, David and Sean. He also had 7 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Laura, his sister, Dorothy and nieces and nephews in South Dakota.

A celebration of Arthur’s life will begin with a viewing on Saturday, 12/30/23 from 10am-1pm at Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Avenue, Ramsey, NJ 07446. On Saturday, January 6, 2024, a church service will take place at Lutheran Church-The Redeemer, 55 Wyckoff Ave, Ramsey, NJ 07446 followed by interment at George Washington Cemetery in Paramus, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to Wounded Warrior Project.
