Caroline Knauss Obituary

Caroline Louise Knauss, age 80, left this world peacefully on July 10, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. At her bedside was her devoted husband of 57 years, Roger. Caroline enriched the lives of all who knew her. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, a cherished sister, and a faithful member of St. Paul Parish in Ramsey, NJ.

Caroline was born on October 19, 1944, the beloved daughter of Grace and Anthony Lembo. She was the twin sister of Grace Laudato and elder sister to Louise Lembo-Kuhnle and Anthony Lembo. Caroline grew up in Lyndhurst, NJ, and graduated from Lyndhurst High School before earning her bachelor’s degree from William Paterson College. She later continued her studies there, receiving her master’s degree. Caroline and Roger made their home together first in Franklin Lakes before settling in Ramsey, where they built a wonderful life and lasting friendships.

Caroline dedicated her professional life to education — working as a teacher, librarian, and media specialist primarily in the Wallington and Ramsey school districts. Her passion for learning and literature touched countless students and colleagues.

Beyond her career and family, Caroline lived a life rich with interests and simple joys. An avid reader, she found comfort and inspiration in books and was an active member of the Ramsey Library Board of Trustees, championing literacy and community engagement. Caroline was also a devoted Yankees fan, rarely missing a game on TV and never hesitating to cheer — or call out — the players when she thought they needed it. She loved to travel, especially when it meant visiting family near and far. Whether exploring new places or simply gathering around the table with loved ones, Caroline’s greatest happiness came from sharing moments and creating memories with those she held dear.

Above all, Caroline treasured her family. She and Roger are the proud parents of Pamela, who resides in England, and David (Rita) of Wisconsin. Caroline found immense joy in her role as “Grandma” to her six grandchildren: Harry, Poppy, Tobias, Jakob, Kayleigh, and Jojo — all of whom deeply mourn her passing.

Family and friends are invited to help celebrate Caroline’s life. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 17, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at St. Paul R.C. Church in Ramsey. A funeral Mass will take place on Friday, July 18, at 10:00 AM at St. Paul R.C. Church with entombment to follow at Maryrest Mausoleum in Mahwah.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to The Friends of the Ramsey Public Library  (ramseylibrary.org/friends or by check to: The Friends of the Ramsey Library c/o Ramsey Library, 30 Wyckoff Ave., Ramsey, NJ 07446) in Caroline’s memory, supporting one of her greatest passions.
