Charles Stanley French, 95, of Neptune City, New Jersey, formerly of Mahwah, New Jersey, passed away Friday, October 8, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 15, 1925 in South Harrow, England. Son to the late Frederick and Beatrice (Glady) French. Charles is predeceased by his wife Gladys and his sister Beatrice “Trixie” Kidd.
He worked as a film projectionist at the Odeon Theater in London England as a young man during WWII. When he came to this country in the late 1940’s. He worked as a painter with his father and brother in their family-owned business “French and Sons Painting and Wallpapering”. He then began working for the Upper Saddle River Schools and became the Supervisor of buildings and grounds.
On October 18, 1960, Charlie married the love of his life, Gladys (Russell) French. Charlie and Gladys were married for 25 years until her passing and together they built a life centered around family, laughter and love.
His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his children, son Gregory Dias, son Lawrence Dias and his wife Patricia Dias, daughter Gail Lewis, daughter Wendy Sochulak and her husband Stephen Sochulak III, and son Michael French. His eleven grandchildren. Laura, Leland, Anthony, Rebecca, Stephanie, Christine, Alyssa, Vanessa, Eric, Stephen and Brittany. Nine great grandchildren, Rhianna, Andrew, Brooke, Neavella, Leland, Alexander, Charles, Jr., Victoria and Christian. His loving sister Betty Burkhart, his loving brother William French and many nieces and nephews.
Charlie was always the life of the party and those that met him will have those memories to cherish.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 from 11 AM – 2 PM with a service being conducted at 1:30 PM at Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Ave, Ramsey, NJ. Interment will follow at Redeemer Cemetery, Mahwah, NJ
