Charles Nakoniecz Obituary

Charles Nakoniecz passed away on February 7, 2025, at the age of 103. He lived a full and wonderful life. He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Dorothy (nee Sackmann) in 2002.

Charles was a WWII veteran. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in the Pacific Theater (CBI) China, Burma, India. He travelled to Colorado Springs, CO for basic training then back to New York where he shipped out to Bombay, India. He trained in New Dehli then was shipped to Barrackpore outside Calcutta.

He was a topographic draftsman with the 958 Topographic Engineers attached to the Air Force. His unit made target charts and maps for the Air Force. Charles spent 28 months in India and was honorably discharged in November 1945.

Upon his return to the States, he used the skills he learned in the Army, studied drafting at Fairleigh Dickenson University in Teaneck, and became a designer draftsman for ITT Paramus, Ramsey and Raleigh NC before his retirement in 1985.

In April 2023, at the age of almost 102, he was invited along with his grandson, Joseph, to travel with the Hudson Valley Honor Flight to Washington D.C., where the veterans toured the various monuments, viewed the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and were treated to lunch at a local hotel. This was the trip of a lifetime, and he was so honored to have been included.

Charles is survived by his daughter Cheryl Maxwell and son-in-law Bob Maxwell of Ramsey, grandson, Joseph Pelleteri of Allendale, and grandson Ryan Maxwell and fiancé Marija Markovic of East Brunswick.
