Charles Zuroff Obituary

Charles Alan Zuroff was 89 years old, he lived in Mountainside, NJ with his wife Deloris Higgins.  He passed peacefully surrounded by family on February 27, 2023.

Charlie was born in NYC on July 7, 1933.  He grew up in Bayside/Flushing Queens, NY with his parents and his brother John.  He graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School, Queens College and earned a masters degree in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University in 1957.

Charles had a career as a "Scientific Programming Specialist" - a computer programmer specializing in top secret clearance military applications.  He worked for a variety of companies spending most of his career working for Lockheed Martin Marietta.   He did not talk much about what he did because of the secret nature of his work.  We do know that he programmed Atlas ICMbs, communication satellites for the U.S.A. - D.O.D., C.I.A. and one for the U.S. Navy.  He programmed/adapted a test cart to fit and test multiple nuclear warheads at Picatinny Arsenal.  He programmed the first Sweda Corporation scanning cash registers and the first radar system which displayed flight data to air traffic controllers.

Charlie lived for many years in Ramsey, NJ with his first wife, Jane and his two children Pete & Jane.  He loved his family and enjoyed sailing, tinkering with projects and riding his motorcycle.

A memorial service for Charlie will be held on March 8, 2023, at Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey, NJ from 10am to 1pm.

Charlie was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend who touched the lives of so many people.  Dad was one of the smartest people I've met.  He could carry an informed conversation on any topic.  He dedicated his life to loving and caring for his wife Deloris.  We miss him.

He is survived by his loving wife Deloris, children Jane Zuroff and her husband Mike Scalione of Ramsey, son Pete Zuroff, grandchildren Helen Emond and her husband Jay of Teaneck, John Zuroff of Haledon, and 2 great grandchildren, Lukas and Mason Emond.
