Clare T. Hammond
January 22, 1941 – August 12, 2024
Clare (nee Thompson) Hammond, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and grandmother, departed the earthly world and entered eternal rest in the early morning of August 12, 2024.
Clare was born in New York City, the daughter of Clarence and Julia (O’Keefe) Thompson. Raised in Roslyn, NY, she graduated Roslyn High School and the Katherine Gibbs School. Clare began her career working in public relations and advertising for Young and Rubicam in New York City, before marrying Robert F. Hammond in 1964, moving to Upper Saddle River, and raising her children, Robert and Jennifer. After raising her children, Clare then returned to her career in the Public Relations Department at Ramapo College, where she worked until her retirement.
Clare was an avid reader, a clever conversationalist, and a worldwide traveler. She enjoyed travels with her husband, family, and in her later years, cruising the world with her dear cousin Marjorie McLean. Above all, she enjoyed time with her grandchildren, over the years attending concerts, birthdays, sporting events, graduations and hosting sleepovers with morning strawberries and pancakes.
Clare was predeceased by her brother Denis and cousin Marjorie, and is survived by her husband of 60 years Robert, children Robert (Donna) and Jennifer (Marc), grandchildren Kevin, Sarah, Emily, Juliette and Jane, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
“Those we love don’t go away, They walk beside us every day, unseen, unheard, but always near. Still loved, still missed and very dear”.
Memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, September 1, 2024 from 10 AM - 1 PM with a service being conducted at 12:30 PM at Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Avenue, Ramsey, NJ.
