David Bartel Obituary

David Vincent Bartel, known to family and friends as David, passed away on May 5, 2026, in Mahwah, New Jersey, at the age of 69. Born on October 23, 1956, in Passaic, New Jersey, David carried the values of hard work, humility, and devotion throughout his life. He was a Christian whose life reflected a commitment to God, family, and community. He carried himself with a gentle spirit, a friendly manner, and a sense of humor.

David graduated from Wood-Ridge High School in 1975. He had a deep appreciation for learning. After high school, he enjoyed taking theology classes at the Franciscan University of Steubenville and psychology classes at Ramapo College of New Jersey. He loved to read and learn foreign languages. He had an interest in fitness, earning a certification in yoga instruction, enjoyed art and taking drawing classes. He was a lifelong learner in every sense.

His professional life was marked by service and reliability. David worked as a Lab Technician at Ramapo College, contributing his skills and dedication in an environment that valued learning and discovery. He also served as Sexton at Christ Church of Ramapo, a role that placed him in close connection with his faith community. In both settings, he was known as someone who could be counted on, someone who approached his responsibilities with seriousness and integrity. It was important to him that he supported others, maintained order, and helped the institutions he served function with care and dignity.

David was the beloved son of Ronald Bartel and Margaret Bartel, née McAloon. He is survived by his wife, Lee Ann Bartel; his daughter, Bridgette Jalallar, and her husband, Mostafa Jalallar; his grandson, Wes Jalallar; his sister, Linda DeMento; his nephews, Christopher DeMento, Daniel DeMento, and Robert DeMento; his brother, Ronald Bartel; and his niece and nephew, Ana Bartel and Reynold Bartel. His family knew the depth of his gentleness and the steadiness of his love. The bonds he formed with them were shaped by loyalty and care, and will remain a lasting part of his story.

A man of Christian faith, David lived with a sincere trust in God and a heart inclined towards service. He found purpose in being faithful in the ordinary things, and he understood that a life well lived is one offered in love to God and neighbor. As Scripture reminds us, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” from 2 Timothy 4:7. Those words fit David well, for he approached life with perseverance and a humble spirit. May he rest in the peace of Christ, and may those who mourn him find comfort in the promise of God’s eternal care.
