Denise (Nannery) Carroll

Denise Carroll (nee Nannery), 60, of Ramsey, NJ passed away on April 11, 2024. Denise was born on March 11th, 1964, to Philip and Josephine Nannery in Queens, NY and raised in Valley Stream, Long Island. After graduating from Sacred Heart Academy in 1982, she went on to obtain her bachelor’s degree in English from Manhattan College and master’s degree from William Paterson University, as well as her Orton-Gillingham certification. Upon college graduation, Denise began her teaching career in 1987 as a Kindergarten teacher in Ozone Park, NY. She joined the Wyckoff public school system in 2001 and most recently served as a special education teacher at Lincoln School from 2008 until her official retirement on April 1st, 2024. Denise was passionate about teaching young children to read, and her dedication and enthusiasm changed the lives of hundreds of students over her thirty-seven-year career. 

It was also at Manhattan College that she met her future husband, Rich Carroll, in 1984. They married on August 6th, 1988, and went on to have 4 children. Denise was a loving mother to Brian and wife Jackie, Terrence and wife Lily, Kevin, Erin, and Revis, a flat-coated retriever.

Denise loved golfing, and was a member of the Paramus Women’s league, a group fondly known as “the awesome foursome”.  She was an avid reader, and always looked forward to her book club meetings with fellow Wyckoff public school teachers. Denise also enjoyed the beach, birdwatching, gardening, and dancing to The Rolling Stones. As a die-hard New York Jets fan, she liked attending games and tailgates with her family and friends at MetLife Stadium in Lot L14. 

Denise is survived by her sisters Stephanie Nerney and Jackie Turner and husband Bob, brother Philip Nannery and partner Lori, sister-in-law Janet O’Connor and husband Thomas, and brother-in-law James Carroll and wife Diana. She is predeceased by her brother-in-law Robert Carroll and wife JoAnn.

Denise touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all of those who knew her.

A celebration of life will be held on Monday, April 15, 2024 from 4 - 9 PM at Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Avenue, Ramsey, NJ. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at 10 AM at St. Paul R.C. Church in Ramsey. Interment will follow at Redeemer Cemetery in Mahwah, NJ.
