Donald Michael Kiernan, 92, of Waldwick, formerly of Midland Park, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2022. He was born in New York City to the late Michael and Anna Kiernan (nee Gerety) on December 3, 1929. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Dorothy Kiernan, his sister, Jeanne Lynch and his brother, James Kiernan. He is survived by his loving children, Laura and Don Seltmann of Ho-Ho-Kus, Donna Miles of Texas, Joann Meyer of Allendale and Ben McDonough of Pennsylvania. Cherished grandfather to Nick, John, Christopher, Jamie, Emily, Nicole and Megan and adored uncle to many.
Don was raised in the Bronx and worked for The New York Telephone Company for over 40 years where he met his wife. He loved baseball and was a lifelong Yankee fan. He served in the Korean War as a communications specialist and he loved ballroom dancing. In his later years, he always had a book in his hand and loved reading historical works about our country and its leaders. In his 70’s, he learned to fly a small airplane and in his 80’s he visited Ireland with his daughters and saw where his family originated from in the counties of Galway and West Meade. In his 90’s he survived Covid thanks to the amazing and dedicated care of his wonderful health aide, Emelia, for whom he and his family are eternally grateful to. Don’s greatest joy was spending time with his family. He will be missed by so many and his legacy will live on in us all, especially his children and his grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 25, 2022 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm with a funeral service being held on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 10:00am at Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey.
