Dorothy Akin was born on September 28th 1941 in Suffern, NY to Angela and John Hellik. Dottie as she preferred to be called is survived by her Brother John Junior Hellik and Sister Mary Christine Ochrym. Dorothy Akin had two sons Scott and Jeffrey Akin who both married and gave her three grandchildren combined. Jonathan Akin sole child of Scott and Lydia and Alley and Jack, Marla and Jeff’s children. Dottie was also blessed with a step grandson Christopher Barreto and a step great grand child Angelina Barreto Dottie loved and cherished her whole family and she loved life and she loved teaching and helping others. That’s why she started the Akin Learning Center in Midland Park, NJ. A preschool designed to prepare young children for first grade and beyond. Dottie and her staff helped so many young children and parents get a head start in life. She loved her job and loved her school. The last five years of her life have been tough on her. She fought an incredible battle and was determined to win, and did. Dorothy Akin should be remembered as a strong independent educated women that used her kindness and strength to help everyone around her. Dottie passed away peacefully on Friday morning January 19th at around 6:30am. Rest in peace Mom
