Dr. Edward Allen Ewald

Dr. Edward Allen Ewald MD, 68, died peacefully on August 15, 2023 after a long and complex illness. Eddie was a highly accomplished Rheumatological Physician. Earning degrees from Hamilton College as a chemistry major, New York University School of Medicine, and his beloved University of Michigan, Ann Arbor where he did his internship, residency and fellowship. His career enveloped many years of teaching appointments, speaking engagements, publications, research and private practice.

In his private life, Eddie enjoyed hiking, genealogy, learning new languages, classic television, and spending time with friends and family. His family moved to Bergen County, NJ from Valley Stream, NY in the early 1970’s. He had many fond memories of the old neighborhood and still had close relationships with his best friends from the block. He spent many Friday nights eating pepperoni pizza (his favorite food) with his nieces and nephews. In recent years he enjoyed hiking and worshiping at the Ramapo Reservation with a special group of friends that he met there. Those friends provided the strength and spiritual comfort that sustained him in his final days.

Devoted son of the late Thomas and Dorothy Ewald. Predeceased by his loving brothers Howard Petersen and James Ewald. Cherished uncle of Jennifer Spillane, Jeanette Liguori, Jessica Burns and Michael Petersen. Adored Great Uncle of 13 nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 28, 2023 from 11 AM - 1 PM with a service being conducted at 1 PM at Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Ave, Ramsey. Interment will follow at Redeemer Cemetery in Mahwah.
