Dr. F. James O’Bosky, Sr., of Upper Saddle River, NJ passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on August 27, 1936, and was the only child of Frank and Mary O’Bosky. He lived in Newark, NJ through high school where he attended Arts High School. He received a full scholarship to Johns Hopkins University. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Biology at Rutgers University and then graduated from Loyola School of Dentistry. He later served in the Navy as a dentist and met his future wife, Claudia Setzler, in Charleston, SC, where Claudia was teaching music at North Charleston High School. He later attended Columbia University to study orthodontics. In 1968, he and Claudia moved to Allendale, NJ, where he established his orthodontic practice. They later relocated to Upper Saddle River, NJ. Dr. O'Bosky devoted his life to caring for and treating his patients while also raising his children. Additionally, he continued to refine his artistic talents through various media, such as oil painting and landscapes. He pursued studies at the Art Students League, New York and in Lucca, Italy, under the guidance of John Del Monte. He will be dearly remembered by his family, patients, and the community as a dedicated and affectionate father, grandfather, and husband. He is survived by his wife, Claudia; daughters, Mimi Steward (Charles), Claudia Moore (John), and Caroline Viducich (Robert); son, F. James O’Bosky, Jr. (Marta); grandchildren, Gordon Steward, James Steward, Benjamin Steward, Elizabeth Moore, Caroline Moore, James O’Bosky, Sophie O’Bosky, Claudia O’Bosky, and Charlotte Viducich.
A mass will be held at the Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River, NJ, at 10 am on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, followed by a committal service at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah, NJ. In lieu of flowers or gifts, friends may make a memorial contribution to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (www.michaeljfox.org) or Operation Smile (www.operationsmile.org).
