Edith (Conti) Bachmann, of Allendale, formerly of Toms River and Midland Park, died March 6th at the age of 95. She is survived by her son Robert and his wife Diana of Toms River, son Rev. John D. Gabriel of St. Paul Church in Ramsey, and her daughter-in-law Karen Bachmann of Waldwick. Also, her grandchildren Tracy (Michael) Lynch, Dawn Coviello, Robert (Liz) Bachmann, and great-grandchildren Melissa (Philip) Lucas, Katelyn Lynch, Kevin Coviello, and Ashton Coviello. Edith is also survived by her sister, Helen Gambutti, and many nieces and nephews.
Edith is predeceased by her beloved husband Carl Edward (Buck) Bachmann, her son Carl John (Butch) Bachmann, and granddaughter Bridget Park. Born on Cross Street in Paterson to a large Italian immigrant family, she is also predeceased by her parents, Salvatore and Rosaria Conti, and her siblings Ferdinando, Gerard (Angelina), Anthony (Catherine), Florence (Alfred) Lerro, Maria, Carlo (Irene), Gaetano, Yolanda (Felix) Andrews, and her brother-in-law Silvio Gambutti.
Edith worked in the Paterson garment industry, eventually becoming a homemaker and waitress at the Hamilton Club, Paterson. A long-time parishioner and choir member at the Church of the Nativity in Midland Park, she was a person of deep faith in Christ and love for the Blessed Virgin Mary and a member of the Legion of Mary for many years. A highlight of her life was a pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 1992, and a trip to Italy, visiting the Vatican and the small town of Montella, birthplace of her parents.
Friends and family are invited to join in the Funeral Rites of the Catholic Church beginning with visitation on Sunday, March 10 from 5 PM - 8PM at St. Paul Church in Ramsey, and a Funeral Mass at St. Paul Church at 10 AM on Monday, March 11. Interment will take place following the Mass at Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah NJ.
Since we gather in the season of Lent, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Edith to St. Paul Church, Ramsey or some form of almsgiving to the charity of your choice. Prayers are always welcome.
