Edward Cody Obituary

Edward Brian Cody, 57, formerly of Ramsey, NJ, and a recent resident of Hillsboro Beach, Fla., passed away on May 3, 2025.

Born in Bethlehem, Pa., to Janice and Edward Cody, Eddie lived most of his life in Ramsey, NJ, where he attended public schools and completed his Sacraments at St. Paul RC Church. He and his younger brother, Patrick, were Irish twins. Growing up, Eddie’s friends called him Scrappy, after the Scooby-Doo character, because he was quick to get into scraps. Fiercely loyal, he would defend his loved ones wholeheartedly. Eddie’s family spent their summers at the Jersey shore, and this sparked his lifelong love of the ocean. Special memories included annual themed parties at Normandy Beach with his grandparents, Eileen and Pop O’Brien, his aunt and uncle, Peggy and Jackie O’Brien, and his cousin, Bridget. Good times and fun always ensued when his family gathered together.

In 1990, Eddie graduated from Ramapo College of New Jersey and began his successful career in sales, working for Procter & Gamble, Kimberly-Clark, Georgia-Pacific and Solaris Paper. A born salesman, Eddie proved a relentless debater with an outgoing and bold personality who could command a room with his gregarious sense of humor.

Eddie loved the Ramsey community, where he and Jennifer Cody, his wife of 20 years, raised their children, Ryan and Madison. Eddie adored his children, the joys of his life. He always knew how to celebrate their big life events and cheer them up when needed. Eddie especially adored celebrating Christmas and insisted on buying the tallest tree possible every holiday. He and his family savored summer weekends and vacations at his parents’ Normandy beach house. Special moments included crabbing off the dock, kayaking in the bay, dipping in the blow-up swimming pool, floating in the lagoon on the 5-seater tube and feasting on fried fish and homemade French fries made by Poppa, Eddie’s dad.

To say that Eddie was an avid sports fan does not do his passion justice. He absolutely loved the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys. He passed his love of sports onto his son Ryan, and the two rooted together and talked tirelessly about their favorite teams. In March, they attended the Yankees’ season opener together and cheered as their beloved team beat the Milwaukee Brewers.

Eddie spent the last year and a half of his life living in Hillsboro Beach, Fla., where he forged new friendships and appreciated living near his mom and the ocean.

He is survived by his cherished children, Ryan and Madison Cody; his mother, Janice Cody; his brother, Patrick Cody and wife, Alice; his nephews, Sean and Chris Cody and Quinn Connell; his niece, Caitlyn Connell; and his godson, John Michael Emery; and extended family. He is predeceased by his father, Edward Cody, his grandparents, John and Eileen O’Brien and Betty and Howard Cody, and his uncle, Jackie O’Brien.
