Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Mariani, 82, of New Windsor, NY passed away peacefully and comfortably, with family close to her side, on Saturday January 30th, 2021. She is survived by her brother Edward Smith of Ft Myers, FL (sp Helen Marasak), children Robert P. Mariani, Jr. of Palm Coast, FL (sp Theresa Mariani), Lisa A. Shepherd of Ringwood, NJ (so Billy DeLorenzo) and Thomas J. Mariani (sp Jeanne Mariani) of Pittsford, NY, and her beloved grandchildren Danielle and Carley Shepherd of Los Angeles, CA, Melissa Mariani of Cornwall, NY, Timothy and Daniel Mariani of Pittsford, NY.
Betty was raised in The Bronx, NY and graduated from Christopher Columbus High School. She previously resided in Sudbury, MA, Park Ridge, NJ, Tarzana, CA, Dallas, TX, Ramsey, NJ, South Kingstown, RI, and Monroe, NY.
Betty held many diverse jobs throughout her life including home-maker, job recruiter and executive assistant. Mostly, she loved spending time with her large extended family, watching sports and celebrating New Year’s eve with friends.
Funeral services will be for immediate family only, with a “celebration of life” memorial service to be held at a later to be determined date. In lieu of flowers, her grandchildren recommend the following charities for those who are looking to make a donation in her memory. The charities were thoughtfully chosen to honor the life of our amazingly smart, unbelievably funny, and wonderfully unique Nana.
Meals on Wheels of Greater Newburgh
Helping the elderly population maintain independence, dignity, and a healthy diet is a deeply important and impactful initiative. We all know how important it was to Nana to maintain her independence. As she got older, programs like Meals on Wheels helped make that possible by delivering meals to her on a regular basis. Volunteers for the Newburgh branch were incredibly kind and accommodating to Nana, and even checked in on her from time to time.

Direct Relief
The tragedy of COVID-19 cannot be understated. Losing someone you love is difficult enough, but as 2.24 million families learned before us, we know that losing someone to COVID stings in a unique way.
Direct Relief has devoted itself entirely to their COVID response and has done some amazing work over the last year. They’ve distributed PPE, medical resources, and emergency aid to hospitals, health clinics and the like. They’ve sent those same resources and equipment to under-served communities, and are working with public health agencies to improve vaccine distribution. They’ve put millions into emergency funding which has provided financial support to healthcare workers and helped fund community health centers.
