On February 19, Ellen Pfister (nee Treloar) passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack, Ed by her side. Ellen, the youngest of three children, grew up in River Edge where she attended River Dell High School. Summers were spent at the Jersey Shore with mom Cathie, father Dick, sister Joanne and brother Peter; along with aunts, uncles and cousins. Those first memories shaped her love for the beach, so much that she continued the family tradition and spent summers with her growing family in the Outer Banks. What started as Ellen and Ed having three boys, all 18-months apart, grew into daughters-in-law, and grandchildren. The two quickly became five with Andrew, Robert and David, then eight with Rose, Cheryl and Molly, then fourteen, welcoming Stella, Hayden, Scarlett, Juliette, Eddy and Andy. Not to be forgotten as part of the family, the many dogs throughout the years.
One would think that Ellen had her hands full raising Andrew, Robert and David, but she found time for a career, first working at Ramsey High School, then for Rodman Publishing. There she fine tuned her computer skills which paired perfectly with her organizational skills. She enjoyed dabbling in photo editing, some of which today you can see hanging on the Christmas tree.
An avid walker, Ellen enjoyed putting her headphones on, listening to a book and walking around town, or along the shoreline in the OBX. Ellen enjoyed traveling, first on her own to France as a teen, later with Ed. Together they took many trips, venturing many times to Europe with Ed’s sister and cousins, visiting the Swiss relatives and friends countless times, and the West Coast with Ed’s sisters Diane and Susan. She always looked forward to her weekend Mahjohg trips with her close group of friends, many laughs were shared.
The family asks you to join in sharing memories at the Visitation on Thursday, February 26 from 10 AM - 1 PM at Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, Ramsey. Ellen’s love will forever be felt in the hearts of family and friends.
