Eric J. LaPorta

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Eric LaPorta age 71 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Eric was born in Suffern, NY and was a lifelong resident of Waldwick, NJ.

Eric was a loving father to his daughter, Kristine (John) and a proud grandpa to Jase who brought him endless joy and pride. He is survived by his dear sister Paula Jaegge and husband Frank.

He is also survived by several nieces, aunts, cousins and friends. Eric is predeceased by his parents, Louise and Dominic and his brother, Donald (Linda).

Eric attended St. Luke’s Grammar School and graduated from Don Bosco Preparatory High School Class of 72- a proud Ironmen. He then went on to Bergen Community College for 2 years where he studied business.

Eric started working at an early age at his father’s hardware store in town. He furthered his career later on at Wurth USA and finally retired as an independent sales representative.

Eric was the first President of the Leo Club of Waldwick, which was a young adult club managed by the Lions Club and also a former member of the Lions Club of Waldwick.

Eric had a passion for gardening, learning from his father and grandfather. He enjoyed sitting in the sun next to the pool and working on his garden.

Being extremely sports minded, he was a huge fan of the New York Yankees and New York Giants. In his younger years he participated in Little league Baseball in Waldwick and was on the bowling team in high school. He was also a member of several fast pitched softball and arc ball teams. There wasn’t a sport he wasn’t interested in.

Through all his health battles, it never stopped Eric from being there for his family and friends, especially his care for Baron, the family dog. One could often find him laughing and joking with his friends at Nellie’s Place. He will be sorely missed and loved by everyone who knew him.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Eric’s life. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 21, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Avenue, Ramsey. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 22 at 11:00 AM at St. Luke’s RC Church, 340 N. Franklin Tpke, Ho-Ho-Kus. Cremation will be private.
