Erna Maria ((Verderber)) Cerne

Erna Maria Cerne, affectionately known as “Oma” when she became a grandmother, passed away on April 19, 2023. She was 80 years old. Erna is survived by her children Jonathan Cerne and his wife Cory, Elisabeth Cerne and her husband Amitabh, Philip Cerne and his girlfriend Alejandra. Erna is forever remembered by her 8 grandchildren:  Zoe, Hudson, Ty, Sophia, Ariana, Reese, Greyson, and Aiden. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother.

Erna was born in Austria on August 22, 1942 to her loving parents Olga Maurin and Ernst Verderber. She immigrated with her family to Ridgewood in New York City at the age of 10. After marrying her husband Alfred Cerne, they moved to Upper Saddle River, NJ to raise their 3 children. She worked with her husband at their engineering business managing the administrative duties. Devoted to her husband, she cared for him while he suffered from Parkinson’s disease for 20 years. She enjoyed playing Scrabble, eating delicious foods, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Erna was fun to be around, confident, tenacious, hardworking, dedicated, and was always looking out for her friends and family. She was definitely a character!
