MAKOUJY, Filomena A. (nee Deo) age 85, of Franklin Lakes, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 24, 2023 at home. Born to Antoinette (Colona) Deo and Thomas Deo on April 19, 1938 and raised in Newark, New Jersey, she was the youngest of seven children. Filomena married Norman J. Makoujy on June 14, 1958. They resided in Clifton, moving to Franklin Lakes in 1969. She was active in the Franklin Lakes Newcomers’ Club and the Franklin Lakes Womens’ Club; and a dedicated volunteer at Valley Hospital, Ridgewood, working in the kitchen at Kurth Cottage for 40 years. She loved the Jersey Shore, Frank Sinatra, her cocker spaniels, cooking, the New York Yankees, and her family’s annual Buoncammino Feast celebrating the patroness saint of Altamurra, Italy.
Filomena is mourned by her husband of 65 years, Norman J.; four children: Thomas Makoujy and his wife Kathleen of Sparta; Gina and husband Glen Poppe of Franklin Lakes; Jacqueline of Franklin Lakes; and Norman, II, of Warwick, New York; five grandchildren; Christopher Poppe and his wife Julia, Catherine Poppe Noel and husband Nick, Anna Makoujy, Stefanie Makoujy and Jacob Makoujy; and three great-grandchildren; Logan, Finnian, and Henry. She is also survived by brothers-in-law Richard Makoujy and partner Clair Brunetti; and Jack Makoujy and wife Hyela, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at a Funeral Mass on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at 10:30am at the Church of St. Elizabeth, 700 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. The mass will be livestreamed.
Private Cremation will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St Jude Childrens’ Research Hospital would be appreciated.
