George Westcott Obituary

George W. Westcott, 92, of Mahwah, NJ passed away peacefully February 4, 2026 after a brief illness. He was the son of Amalia (Fuchs) Westcott.

Born on October 31, 1933, he was raised in West New York, NJ alongside his cousins Elaine Koykas and Ruth Burmeister who he considered his sisters.

George was a hardworking man. Starting as a child he was a bicycle messenger for Western Union delivering telegrams, worked at Palisades Amusement Park, and White Castle. As an adult he joined the Army and was proud of his service working with the Army Security Agency stationed at “NakNak” in Alaska. When he came home from Alaska his career brought him to many jobs as a computer operator in New York City and New Jersey. He retired from Kmart where he worked as a data center operations manager.

After retirement he enjoyed working at Goffle Road Poultry Farm part time where he enjoyed interacting with the customers.

George met the love of his life, Katherine, and they married in 1957. They settled in Palisades Park, NJ where they raised their 3 sons. For many years he also enjoyed working part time at Gardner’s Deli. George loved to travel and brought his family all across the United States visiting National Parks with their camper; he loved his AAA TripTiks. They moved to Glen Rock, NJ in later years and have spent the last 22 years in Mahwah, NJ where George thrived on the condo committee helping make the community a better place.

George was a man of great faith, which provided a strong foundation for his life. While living in Palisades Park, George was a member of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church of Leonia. He was actively involved with Church services, activities, social events, and retreats. He later became an active member of The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Ramsey where he continued his commitment to his faith.

George loved telling stories, jokes, and regaling people with interesting fun facts. Since he was born on Halloween, he often referred to himself as the “The Great Pumpkin”. He cherished his winters in Fort Myers, FL where he spent over 20 years going to Indian Creek RV resort with Kathy, and playing golf. While there, they made many lifelong friends from around the country.

George is survived by his wife of 69 years, Katherine Westcott, his children, Steven (Amy) of Clark, NJ, Donald (Patti) of Ridgewood, NJ and David (Jane Barrett) of Concord, MA. He also leaves 8 grandchildren, Brenna, Collin, Tanner, Peter, Evan, Laura, Jennifer, and Samantha; and 3 great grandchildren, Savannah, Colton, and Jemma. He also is survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
