Hank Goin Obituary

Jon “Hank” Goin, age 86, passed away peacefully at his home on December 11, 2024. A longtime resident of Mahwah, NJ, Hank leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and dedication to family, friends, and his community.

Hank is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Bella; his devoted brothers, Robert Goin of Oakland, NJ, and George Goin of Larkspur, CA; and his loving nieces and nephews: Kathryn (Ric) Navy, Dolores Goldberg, Claudine (Jim) Felten, John Goin, Jonathan (Amy) Goin, Candace (Bryce) McConnell; and from Winnipeg, Canada, brother-in-law Sidney (Joan) Sholom and their children Cindy (Craig) Pasternak and Raymond, Brian, and Bruce Sholom as well as 16 great-nieces and nephews.

Born on June 17, 1938, to the late John “Jack” and Kathryn “Kay” (Cullen) Goin, Hank was the second oldest of three children. He was raised in Fair Lawn, NJ, where he developed a lifelong love of sports and learning.

Hank graduated from Fair Lawn High School in 1955 and went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University, where he was a proud member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity and R.O.T.C. program. A standout athlete, Hank played on Rutgers varsity baseball team and was scouted and signed by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1959. He spent three years in the Cardinals minor league system, excelling at second base, third base, and his favorite position, shortstop. His achievements on the diamond earned him a place in the Fair Lawn High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

After his baseball career, Hank transitioned into the business world, working for companies such as Johnson & Johnson, Simmons, Smokador, and Knoll. He later founded ALLE’ Ltd., where he produced and sold office accessories to the design market.

Hank was a man of many talents and passions. He was an avid golfer and never lost his love for throwing a baseball. Known for his wit and creativity, he was often the go-to writer and Master of Ceremonies for family and friends’ celebrations, whether it was a birthday, anniversary, retirement, or farewell party.
