Helen Martha (Sidorski) Mapes

Helen Sidorski Mapes, 97, a long-time Ramsey resident, passed away peacefully at home in her sleep on December 1, 2020. She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Mapes and Michele Mapes-Hamilton. Her son Freddy, predeceased her on 6.15.20 and her husband, Frederick Damon Mapes, passed away 11.24.01. Helen outlived her other 4 siblings as well as her beloved twin sister Martha Makowski, 96, who predeceased her on 6.27.20. She is survived by 7 grand-children and 14 great grand-children. She was a homemaker for her three children and worked part-time driving a school bus and held seasonal positions at Darlington Lakes and Campgaw County Park. Helen will be fondly remembered by family and friends for her good nature and witticisms (“wait a while”) and her ability to drink a cold beer or two on a hot summer’s day. We never tired of hearing the stories of how she met and fell in love with “her fella” [our Dad]. She always said he was her sweetheart. She will be sorely missed. Cremation graveside services will be private at a later date.
