Helen Anne (Christman) Markey

Helen Markey, a resident of Ramsey and Waldwick for over 50 years, passed away on Monday December 8, 2025.  Helen grew up in Queens, New York, alongside her two beloved brothers. She was a proud alumna of Bishop McDonnell Memorial High School. Helen married Don Markey in 1962; ten years and four children later, they made their permanent home in Ramsey.  

Perpetually positive, Helen could always be counted on to share her warm smile and a kind word.  She always went out of her way to give a thoughtful compliment, a meaningful word of appreciation, or loving support to everyone she encountered.

Helen was a faithful parishioner at St. Paul Church in Ramsey.  She never said no to a request to serve her community.  She was a Eucharistic minister for decades, volunteered for many years in spiritual care at Valley Hospital, organized retreats and social events for the St. Paul community, and served as a Girl Scout leader for her daughters’ troops. She was an administrative assistant at Minolta for over 20 years and was recognized for her dedication with the Sam Kusumoto award.  Helen was an avid cook and baker, always putting love into her sauerbraten, her carrot cake and her famous crumb cake.  She and her husband Don were curious travelers and had enjoyed many adventures in Europe and the US. When not far afield, they loved catching a Broadway show. 

Helen was predeceased by her devoted husband of 54 years, Don. Helen was the cherished mother of Anne Markey, Bill Markey and his late wife Linda, Rita Markey and her husband Dennis Johnson, and Karen Platt and her husband Christopher. She was the beloved grandma of Michael (Talia), Christopher, Miles (Alyssa), Faith, Chloe, Tobias and Cecilia. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, American Heart Association or, in honor of her husband’s challenges with Parkinson’s, the Michael J. Fox Foundation, or simply be like Helen and share a kind word with someone.
