Irene (nee Krulik) Smalley, a resident of Ramsey for 47 years, died at home on Sunday May 2. She was 88 years old. The widow of the late Leonard S. Smalley, who had predeceased her in 1979, the couple had previously lived in North Arlington before moving to Ramsey in 1974. Born in Kearny to Ukrainian immigrants Nicholas and Justyne (nee Panchyshyn) Krulik, she attended St. Peter’s College after her graduation from Kearny High School. Employed as an executive secretary at RCA in Harrison from the 1950’s until its closing in 1976, she continued her secretarial career at ITT Marlow in Midland Park and at Western Union in Mahwah until her retirement in 1988. An avid gardener and animal lover, she also served as an elections poll worker in Ramsey for many years. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Smalley was predeceased by her brothers Emil, Stefan, Thomas, Philip, and Frederick Krulik, and her sisters Ann Kolba and Emily Horvath. Cherished by family, friends, and neighbors, her survivors include fifteen of her seventeen nieces and nephews, and a sister-in-law, Lorraine Krulik.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 4-8 PM at Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Ave, Ramsey. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 10 AM at St. Paul RC Church in Ramsey. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.
