Jack Ahern, 80, of Mahwah, formerly of Ramsey, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2024.
Jack was born and raised in Flushing, Queens. It was there that he met, the love of his life, Marlene. Jack and Marlene enjoyed 58 happy years of marriage as they raised their young family in NY before moving to NJ. He was the loving father of John and wife Laura, Denise and husband Greg, Brian and wife Kelly. Cherished grandfather of Christopher, Julia, Kyle, Jessica, Liam and Keira. He was the loyal brother of sister Peggy and husband Mark and brother-in-law Ron and wife Joan.
Jack had a strong work ethic and was determined to provide a good life for his family. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree at Fordham University. He attended classes at night while working days all while raising his young family. He went on to have a successful career in finance before retiring as CFO from Angelo Gordon & Company in Manhattan.
After his retirement Jack, an avid golfer, loved spending time on the golf course with his wife Marlene and close friends. He was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed doing many different activities outdoors. However, nothing gave him more pleasure than getting to spend time with family. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, you could find Jack watching the Jets or Clemson football games on TV with family, watching Jessica play field hockey, cheering on Liam at his ice-hockey games, watching Keira perform gymnastics and watching with great pride as Christopher, Julia and Kyle all graduated college. Always with his beloved wife by his side.
It was Jack’s loving manner, laid back style, quick wit, and good looks that drew friends and family to him. His ability to deliver a quick one-liner, even during the most challenging circumstances, would often delight and amaze those around him. His strength, resiliency and courage made him a role-model to his family. But it was his utter devotion to his wife, Marlene, particularly during their golden years together, that was an inspiration to those who witnessed it. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 PM - 7 PM at Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Avenue, Ramsey. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 10 AM at St. Paul R.C. Church in Ramsey. Interment will follow at Christ the King Cemetery in Franklin Lakes, NJ.
