James Joseph Campo

James Joseph Campo, Jr., 71, of Waldwick, New Jersey, passed away on July 23, 2026.

Jim lived a life centered on his unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, his love for his family, and a heart devoted to serving others. A devoted member of Hawthorne Gospel Church, he built lasting friendships and faithfully lived out his Christian values through kindness, humility, and compassion. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, encourage those around him, and put the needs of others before his own.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany during his active-duty service. He later continued serving in the United States Army Reserve as a MEDEVAC helicopter Crew Chief, demonstrating the same dedication, courage, and selflessness that defined his life both in and out of uniform.

An avid student of history, Jim had a lifelong passion for military history and the stories of those who served. He spent countless hours reading books, watching historical and military films, and sharing his remarkable knowledge with family and friends. His curiosity, wisdom, and love of learning inspired meaningful conversations and left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Above all, Jim cherished his family. He was the beloved husband of 42 years to Irene; devoted father of Shaina Campo and Jesse Campo; loving stepfather to Stephen Hoppe; loving grandfather of Stephen Jr., Travis, Nora, RJ, and Mia; and beloved brother of Catherine Bergen and her husband, Bill, and the late Joan Podschelne, whose husband, Tom, survives her. He also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure his faith, wisdom, generosity, and unconditional love.

A chapel service will be conducted on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 11:15 a.m. at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, New Jersey.
