James Krone 80, of Mahwah, NJ passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, September 20, 2024 after a long and fulfilling life.
Jim was a businessman and consummate public servant who served 16 years on the City of Garfield council as mayor, deputy mayor and councilman. The residents of Garfield were his priority and he ensured every decision he made was the best for the people of his community.
During his career he served as a chairman of the Garfield Housing Authority, commissioner on the Bergen County Utilities Authority, Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission and the Bergen County Parks Commission.
At the time of his retirement, he was the Deputy Executive Director of the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission.
Growing up Jim had a large and vibrate family of 11 brothers and sisters of which he was very proud and whom he truly loved. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Dorothy & Andrew Krone; brothers George, Andrew, Robert and Hugh. He is survived by brothers Joseph, Thomas (Diane) and Albert, sisters Kathleen (William) Burns and Dorothy (Thomas) Fitzsimmons and sister-in-law Ellen Krone. Also, a large part of his life were his brothers and sisters-in-law, Phil and Diane Nicholas and Frank and Janice Nicholas. He was blessed to have several nieces and nephews who were very special to him.
He will be mourned by his wife Linda Nicholas of Mahwah, with whom he shared 3 sons; Matthew (Kristen) of Montville and Stephen of Philadelphia. He was predeceased by cherished son Andrew in 2005. He was loved by grandchildren Matthew Jr and Kennedy who called him by his favorite title Poppy. His departure leaves an unfillable void in their lives, yet they will find comfort in the memories and everlasting love they shared.
In retirement he enjoyed perfecting his golf game and vacationing with his family in Florida and at the Jersey shore. He loved his 50’s doo-wop music collection and insisted that he could sing the songs better then the original artists.
He loved his family and was loved tremendously by them.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 4-8 PM at Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Ave, Ramsey. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at 10 AM at St. Paul RC Church in Ramsey. Interment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah.
