Janice Ann Healy of Upper Saddle River, NJ, died peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, June 14, 2025. Janice was eighty eight years old.
Janice was born in Manhattan, NY to Florence Donahue and Pasquale Castellano on January 25, 1937. Janice was their only child. Janice grew up in the Inwood section of Manhattan. She often spoke fondly of her neighborhood and playing in the streets with her friends. Janice moved to NJ as a teenager and attended Holy Angels High School.
Janice met her husband Bill of 63 years at the Jersey Shore. When Bill took Janice to meet his Irish mother, she famously said, “In the whole of Ireland, I’ve never heard of the name Casellano.” After a few years of living in the Bronx as newlyweds, Janice and Bill moved to the suburbs in NJ. First settling in Washington Township then to Germany and later to Upper Saddle River, where they raised their family.
Janice and Bill loved spending time at the Jersey Shore, especially at the home they bought after Janice borrowed $20 from her father to make a stock investment. It was just enough for the down payment for a perfect lot, situated in Havens Cove on Barnegat Bay. Over 50 years of memories were made in that home, thanks to Janice’s quick thinking. She was also an avid traveler, visiting places all over the world.
Janice always had a love of cars. From the moment she could drive, Janice saved up and bought a car. In fact, when she met her future husband Bill, she owned two cars. She joked that he thought she was wealthy. Her favorite car was her red MG convertible. Janice’s love for cars landed her a job at Brogan Cadillac of Ridgewood, in their accounting department. Janice worked there for many years, with one eye in the books and the other on the cars. Many family cars were purchased from that dealership over the years.
Janice is survived by her husband, William Healy, their three devoted daughters: Amy (Rich), Lori (Tom) and Pam (Tim). And she was ‘Nana’ to 10 grandchildren who she adored: Kyle, Liam, Megan, Sara, Carly, Jackie, Molly, Ally, Casey and James.
Janice was fiercely independent and full of energy, with a deeply generous and humble heart. She lived her life doing the Lord’s work—not out of obligation, nor to seek recognition—but simply because it was in her nature. It was the very fabric of her soul. Her unwavering kindness and selflessness touched everyone around her. Janice will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but her spirit will live on in the countless lives she impacted.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 from 4-8 PM at Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Ave, Ramsey, NJ. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at 11:15 AM at Church of the Presentation in USR, NJ. Cremation will be private.
