Joan Oropallo, 92, of Saddle River, NJ (formerly of Mahwah), passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025, with her loving daughters by her side. Born in Newark, NJ, she was the daughter of Peter and Marie.
A devoted wife to the late Anthony, Joan lived a beautiful, love-filled life centered around family. Together, she and Tony built a home rooted in love, joy, and resilience. Joan was the beloved mother of Toni Marie (and David), Janine (and Alex), Lisa (and Christian), and Michele. Her greatest joy was being a mother, and she poured her heart into raising and supporting her daughters through every stage of life.
Joan was the adored grandmother of Alexis, Evan, Julianne, Catherine, Tristan, Alec, Amelia, and Isabel, and the proud great-grandmother of Alejandra, Harrison, and Weston. She guided and encouraged her grandchildren with unwavering love and care, and they were the light of her life.
She was the beloved sister of Marilyn (and Jerry), sister-in-law of Rosemary (and the late Emil), and cherished aunt of Debbie (and Rick), and of her late nephew, Albert.
While raising her family as a stay-at-home mom, Joan pursued her passion for helping others by earning a degree in Nursing from Bergen Community College. She went on to serve as a skilled and compassionate registered nurse at Bergen Pines County Hospital, where she made a meaningful impact supporting patients in recovery from addiction.
Joan’s warmth extended beyond her profession. She cherished family gatherings and holiday celebrations, where her exceptional cooking, generous spirit, and welcoming home created memories that will be treasured forever. She loved family camping trips, vacations in Ocean City, MD, and indulging in her passions—shopping, decorating, doll collecting, reading, and chocolate.
Joan was the heart of her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering devotion. Her spirit lives on in the lives of those she loved so deeply, and she will be missed beyond measure.
