Joan Remo Obituary

Joan Remo (nee Miraglio) 82, of Mahwah, born November 19, 1940, passed away peacefully on February 28th with her loving husband of 62 years, John A. Remo III, by her side, along with her three children and their spouses, Sandie (Remo) and Sean Duffy, Jeff and Diana Remo, and Roger and Wendy Remo.

Joan was pre-deceased by her mother Mary Ann, father Louis, sister Barbara Remo, and brother Greg Miraglio.

Joan was the cherished grandmother of Alexandra Taggart (Duffy), Nicole Britt (Duffy), Jessica Kling (Remo), Jaclyn Remo, Hannah Remo, and two grandsons, Ryan Remo and Kyle Remo, and two step granddaughters, Nicole and Kelley Wallin.  Joan was also loved by her five great-grandchildren, Samantha Taggart and her brother Jack, Blair Britt and her brother Joseph, and by Miles Kling.

Aside from being the best grandmother and great-grandmother, Joan was also adored by her nieces and nephews, Tracy Doran (Remo), Donna Boley (Remo), Steve and John Kolavitch, George Remo Jr., Matthew Remo, and Ashley Cupolo (Remo) and their children.

Joan, also lovingly known as Grammy or Ms. Joanie, was all about the importance of family.  Nothing gave her greater joy in life than having a house full of her loved ones, that she would cook and bake for. She had passion for her cookbooks and whipping up new things in the kitchen. And, if you knew her, you knew she was always planning the next holiday meal months in advance.  “Grammy’s Birthday Cake” was a hallmark for each family birthday celebration throughout the years.  In her spare time, she loved to knit, crochet, and loved watching movies (both of the Hallmark and horror kind – quite a combo).  She loved to read.  Later in life being able to exchange books to read with her granddaughters gave her true happiness, and a bond with them, never to be broken.

Joan was the epitome of a loving matriarch. While her absence has left a gaping hole, her memory will live on in every family recipe made, every book read, and every memory shared.

There will be no services at this time.  A celebration of life mass and gathering will take place later this spring with Family members.
