John Devine Obituary

John Dermot Devine, who was born on July 31, 1939, in New York, NY, and died on July 24, 2026, was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose life was marked by integrity, steadiness, and generosity.

He was born and raised in the Bronx, New York, where he attended Cardinal Hayes High School.  After serving his country in the United States Army, he pursued his college education in accounting at New York University, building a foundation for a distinguished professional career. His academic training reflected both his natural aptitude for numbers and his disciplined approach to responsibility, qualities that would define his work for decades to come.

John built a respected career in accounting and auditing, serving as Director of Auditing at Engelhard Corporation. In that role, he was known for his professionalism, careful judgment, and commitment. He took pride in doing his work well and in contributing to the success of the organization through steadfast service.

He was a steady and reassuring presence to those who knew him, and his character reflected the values he held dear. He believed in showing up, doing what was right, and caring for the people around him.

John also found joy in the simple pleasures that made life meaningful. He loved Yankees baseball and followed the team with enthusiasm and loyalty. He also enjoyed playing golf, a pastime that gave him both relaxation and companionship. These interests brought him enjoyment over the years and created opportunities to share time with others in a spirit of friendship and good humor. Whether watching a game or spending time on the golf course, he appreciated the traditions and routines that made life rich and memorable.

Family was central to John’s life. He is survived by his sister, Mary Zanga, and his sons, Kenneth Devine, Matthew Devine, and Thomas Devine. He was a proud grandfather to Isabella Devine, Brenden Devine, Meredith Devine, and Gerard Devine, each of whom brought him great joy. He cherished his family deeply and took pride in their lives, accomplishments, and happiness. His love for them was constant and enduring, and the bonds he shared with them were among the greatest blessings of his life.

Those who knew John will remember him as a man of character, devotion, and quiet strength. He was dependable, thoughtful, and sincere, and he carried himself with dignity in all things. He also had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed sharing laughs and stories with those around him.

John will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, and in the example he set through a life well lived.
