John P. Marin, devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather, and pillar of his community, passed away on April 5th. John was born on April 20th, 1930 in West New York to Minnie and Anthony Marinzulich. He had one younger brother, Anthony. John married Marie Daro in 1952, and they had two children, Lisa and Christopher. Marie died in 1965 and Christopher in 1970.
John attended Rutgers Pharmacy School on a full scholarship, and after graduation he became a full-time pharmacist at Strumph Pharmacy in River Edge.
After some years, he became a co-owner of the pharmacy. Up to 2002 when John retired, he served the community with his vast knowledge of medical conditions and treatments, aided by his amenable and efficient staff. He was active in the Bergen County Pharmaceutical Association, and for a number of years served as its president.
In 1973 John met his second wife, Mary, both advanced, competitive tennis players; they were married in 1975. The couple were very active in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Hillsdale and founded the Good Shepherd Ministry. John was a loving father figure to Mary’s five adult children, Paula, Michael, Anne, Tim, and Mary.
Mary, John’s wife, passed away in 2019.
John adored gardening, growing vegetables and herbs in his backyard circular plot year after year come Springtime. Indoors, he especially enjoyed tending rows of flourishing African violets, an undying passion even in old, old age.
John is survived by his daughter, Lisa Banta, her three children, Jeffrey Banta, Christopher Banta, and Carolyn Sayre and four great-grandchildren, Ben Banta, Alyson Sayre, Joshua Sayre and Kyle Banta. John is also survived by three stepchildren: Michael Vode, Anne Vode, and Mary DuPont-Madinier, and by four step-grandchildren: Sarah Ahrens, Mike Dupont-Madinier, Gabby Brundige, and Kim Dupont-Madinier; and by six step-great-grandchildren: Griffin Ahrens, Evie DuPont-Madinier, Celine Brundige, Orson Brundige, Cal Brundige, and Roman DuPont-Madinier. John was a wonderful grandfather and great-grandfather whom all the children adored; he relished playing with each child and often took one of more of them on an adventuresome outing.
A funeral mass at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Hillsdale will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 8th at 10 A.M.; before the Mass, there will be 45-minute period for private prayer next to the casket. Interment will follow mass at Ascension Cemetery in Airmont, NY.

She was avery close friend of Alyson, John’s great-granddaughter, and Alyson’s father Bret was her softball coach for several years.
