John Joseph Rehill, Jr., of Mahwah, formerly of Red Bank and Allendale, passed away March 11 at the age 81. He is survived by his beloved family: wife Darryl Dator-Rehill; daughter Alison Rehill-Erguven (Okay) and grandchildren Kaya and Ceyda; daughter Megan Rehill and grandchildren Shealyn, Julia, and Kian; sister Phyllis Riley and brothers Terry and Brian; stepdaughter Katherine Escobar (Brandon) and stepgrandson Josh; and stepson Michael Kopplin (Kate). He also leaves behind a cherished network of close friends, nieces and nephews, and beloved dog, Archie.
John was born in Jersey City and spent most of his childhood in Allendale. He attended Don Bosco Prep, where he began his well-known band The Rockin’ Royals. An avid lifelong musician, he played saxophone, piano, and organ, and spoke fondly of his days backing up luminaries including Chuck Berry, Chubby Checker, and Little Richard as part of the house band at the Long Pond Inn. He graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck and began a long career in the garment industry at Argenti, Niki Originals, and Jerell Inc., culminating as Vice President of Sales at Jessica McClintock. Infinitely proud of his daughters, he was a passionate family man with a sense of humor that was truly off the charts, always the life of the party.
Visitation will be held at Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Ave, Ramsey, NJ, on Saturday, March 16, 12-2 PM, followed by a memorial service at 1:30 PM.
