Joseph C. Donohue, 92, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2024. Born in New York City on March 3, 1932, Joe grew up in Elmhurst and St. Albans Queens alongside his brother Peter, under the caring guidance of their parents Joseph and Mildred Donohue. He graduated from Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School in Brooklyn before proudly serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953, where he received a commendation for devotion to duty. Following his military service, he pursued his education, graduating from Fordham University and later earning his master's degree from New York University.
Joe built a successful career in international tax, working for American Cyanamid and later Schering-Plough in Madison, NJ. In 1963, he married Louise O'Connor, beginning a loving family and creating a warm and nurturing home in Mahwah, NJ, where they raised their three children–Paul, Marianne, and Matthew. Joe was both a dedicated father and a seasoned world traveller, who would entertain his kids with tales of his far-away journeys. Louise, his devoted wife and beloved mother to their children, passed away in 1996.
Joe found joyful fulfillment again through his loving bond with Patricia Costello. Their 26-year marriage brought him great happiness as they shared a vibrant life between their homes in Upper Saddle River, NJ, and Pompano Beach, FL. Through his marriage with Patricia, he cherished his relationship with her three children, Timothy Costello, Megan Costello Fatuova, and Tracy Costello Csordos.
Joe maintained close friendships with his golfing companions from his years in Mahwah, regularly meeting them on the links well into his retirement. He was an avid reader with a particular passion for history, especially that of his ancestral Ireland.
Joe was blessed with his grandchildren Liam Donohue, Zack Donohue, and Connor Goodwin, and blessed as the loving "Pappy" to Rocco, Thomas, and Reeve Fatuova; Ally, Casey, and James Costello; and Shannon, Danny and Andrew Csordos.
His memory will be cherished by all of those he loved, made smile, enlightened with a bit of knowledge, and provided comfort with his generosity and well-earned wisdom.
