It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph (Jay) Smolensky on January 7th, 2023, at the age of 65. He was born on February 15th, 1957 in Englewood, NJ, to Joseph and Katherine Smolensky (née Rabushko). Joe was a loving brother to his sister Carol Maxfield and her husband Randy. Also, devoted brother to his twin sister Nina Cicero and her husband Anthony. He was a great and fun Uncle Jay to his nieces and nephews: Jessica, Justin, Chelsea, and Kayla. Loved brother-in-law to Donald Glitsis and Sherri Winters, of Atlanta, GA. He also had many wonderful cousins and extended family. Joe was a devoted husband to Lisa Smolensky (née Glitsis) and a loving father to his two sons, Jonathan and Matthew. He had a successful career as a finance manager at Glenmark Pharmaceuticals located in Mahwah, NJ, but his true passion was caring for his family and his community. He was actively involved in local organizations volunteering as a coach in Mahwah’s Rec sports program and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Joe fought a courageous battle with cancer and will be remembered for his strength, resilience, and determination. He had a great sense of humor and a contagious laugh, always surrounded by friends and family. He was an avid lover of sports, music, and enjoyed nothing more than attending Jonathan’s hockey games or Matthew’s concerts. Joe will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and generosity that will live on in their hearts.
