Justine Post Obituary

Justine O. Post (nee O’Brien), a long-time resident of Saddle River, NJ, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 14th at the age of ninety-four. She was an only child, born at the start of the Depression in a modest Philadelphia rowhouse nestled behind Rittenhouse Square, who went on to live a full and happy adult life.

She was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, and the cherished and beloved wife of Alan Joseph Post, for fifty-five years, who preceded her in death on October 9, 2012. She is survived by her daughters Carol (Steven Roper), Martha, Ann, and her sons Justin (Hillary) and Roger (Tracey), and an adored Nana to her eight grandchildren Craig, Daniel, Brian, Sarah, Alexander, Andrew, Colleen, and Gavin. Her legacy and zest for life continues to evolve with the addition of her newest family members: Josh, Elizabeth, Mary Katherine and Theodore Roper.

Justine attended the prestigious John Hallahan Catholic Girls High School in center city Philadelphia. She then went on to graduate at the top of her class with a degree in Latin from Immaculata College. Upon graduation she embarked upon her first steps to see the world by joining the Foreign Service at the U.S. Embassy in Brussels, Belgium. She traveled throughout Europe and returned to Philadelphia and met the love of her life. Alan shared her sense of adventure, humor, and desire to have a large family. Their partnership was one of mutual respect and values which led them to successfully raise five children while contributing to their community in countless ways.

St. Gabriel the Archangel was the epicenter to Justine’s faith and provided her a wealth of lifetime friendships, dinner parties and enjoyment.

The family cherished being together each summer at Pineapple Village in St. Thomas, USVI. The one place where Justine could pull out a novel and truly unwind.

In her later years, she tackled the game of bridge and continued traveling with Alan. Together they explored forty-nine countries on five continents. As soon as her suitcase was emptied and clothes laundered, it was time to plot her next journey.

She deeply appreciated the friendship and generosity of her caregivers of recent years and her family wants to thank the hospice team at Villa Marie Claire for their support on her peaceful journey to Heaven.

Justine will be missed by the many who dearly loved her.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 PM - 8 PM at Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Avenue, Ramsey, NJ.
