Kathleen “Kathy” Lenny, a loving, funny, and spirited woman, passed away on April 25, 2026, in Millsboro, Delaware, at the age of 75. Born on January 8, 1951, in Manhattan, New York, she lived a life marked by devotion to her family, commitment to her work, and faithful service to her community.
Kathy was the beloved wife of Warren Lenny and the cherished mother of Maura Stevens and her husband Robert, Tara Shankey and her husband Tom, Meghan Montero and her husband Roberto, and Kaitlyn Lenny and her husband Corey. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Emily, Declan, Andrew, Nolan, Scarlett, Maggie, and Evelyn, each of whom brought great joy to her life. She is also survived by her siblings Mary Forno and her husband Dan, Fr. Patrick Fanning, John Fanning, Michael Fanning and his wife Amy, and Eileen Marino and her husband Vincent. Her family was the center of her world, and she treasured every moment spent with those she loved.
Kathy began her professional life as a systems analyst at IBM, where she worked for 20 years and built a career defined by intelligence, diligence, and reliability. After her years at IBM, she entered the medical field as an administrator, bringing the same steady dedication and thoughtful care to her new role. Her work ethic and professionalism earned the respect of colleagues and those she served throughout her career.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Kathy made history as the first female firefighter at Volunteer Hose Co. #1 in Suffern, New York. She served there faithfully for many years, demonstrating courage, determination, and a strong sense of duty. Her service stood as a testament to her willingness to lead by example and to give of herself in meaningful ways. She was deeply proud of this chapter of her life and of the friendships and bonds she formed through her years of service.
She carried herself with warmth and grace, and those who knew her will remember her for her kind heart, her quick sense of humor, and her spirited nature. She loved music and reading, and she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, pastimes that reflected both her curiosity and her appreciation for quiet moments. Above all else, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, and those gatherings were among the happiest times of her life.
She will be remembered as a woman of strength, devotion, and love, someone who gave generously of herself to her family, her work, and her community. Kathy’s life was a blessing to all who knew her, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of her husband, children, grandchildren, siblings, extended family, and many friends.
