Ma Luda is predeceased by her beloved husband Serafin Delariarte Jr. and son, Serafin Delariarte III. She is survived by her loving daughters, Yolanda DeStefano (and Giacomo, her husband), Arlene Baasis (and her husband, Edilberto), and her daughter –in-law, Edith Delariarte, as well as her grandchildren, Ciara Bello, Alya Bello, Alec Bello, Jose Miguel Baasis, John Pio Baasis, Arielle Delariarte, and Jervie Delariarte.
She grew up in the Philippines and worked for Wisp and Warp Company for eighteen years as a machine garment operator. She dedicated her retirement years by taking care and watching her grandchildren grow and attending her small business until she left for the USA in 2022. She loved making Filipino meals most especially her signature Filipino spaghetti with hotdog, which will surely be missed. She was an amazing mother and grandmother who served as a guiding light to her children until her death.
Considering her age at 83, health, and language barrier, she demonstrated dedication and willingness to adapt in her new life and environment. She became the most senior student in an ESL class at Sussex County Community College where she felt the sense of belonging, accomplishment, and joy in learning.
Her smiles radiate her beautiful inner self. Her kindness, gentleness, and generosity will never be forgotten. Her words of wisdom will always linger on our thoughts. Her unconditional and forgiving heart will remain in us forever.
Ma Luda, you will surely be missed.
A Memorial Service for Ma Luda will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025 at 6:30 P.M. at Paterson Museum, 2 Market Street, Paterson, New Jersey.
Ma Luda will be laid to rest in the Philippines next to her beloved husband, Serafin.
