Maryanne D. (Daly) Smith

Maryanne Daly Smith, age 84, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2024. She was born on April 5, 1940, in the Marble Hill neighborhood of Manhattan. Maryanne was the eldest daughter of Hugh and Bridget Daly. She graduated from Mount Saint Vincent’s College with a degree in Education and subsequently completed her Masters in Special Education.  Following a brief stint as an account executive at McCann-Erickson Advertising Agency, she found her true passion working as a teacher in New York City, Nanuet, NY and Waldwick, NJ. Maryanne was loved by her family and friends for her determination, sharp wit and beautiful smile.

Maryanne and Tom moved to Allendale, NJ in 1969 and raised their family. She was an active parishioner of Guardian Angel parish and was a volunteer in the Allendale School System.  An avid gardener, wine lover and outdoor/wildlife enthusiast, Maryanne enjoyed visits to Peconic Bay, NY, Vermont and several of the U.S. National Parks.  Her most memorable trip was to Sardinia, Italy with her husband and close friends from Guardian Angel parish.  She loved spending time with her entire family and will be dearly missed.  

In addition to her parents, Maryanne was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Thomas D. Smith, her sisters Kathleen Milano and Eileen Morgan, her son-in-law Thomas Carolan and her nephew Kieran Joyce. She is survived by her sister Josephine, her son Thomas and his wife Beth (Neiman) Smith, her daughter Sara (Carolan) and five grandchildren - Maggie, Teddy, Bridget, Anna and Tess. She is also remembered by her cousins, nieces and nephew and many dear friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday May 9, 2024, from 4-8 PM at the Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Ave, Ramsey, NJ. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 10, 2024, at 10:30 AM at Guardian Angel R.C. Church in Allendale, NJ. Interment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah, NJ.
