Michael Spezzacatena, 77, of Ramsey, New Jersey passed away on June 29th peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Michael was born on All Saints Day in Rapolla, Italy. At the age of 13 he immigrated by boat with his family to Montreal, Canada. After meeting on vacation down the shore and becoming family friends, he proposed to the love of his life after she graduated high school. Four years later, after Lucy graduated college, they were wed. Together, they raised their three daughters in Ramsey, New Jersey.
Michael was a man of faith and a very active member of the Saint Paul Catholic Church community in Ramsey. He participated in multiple ministries and attended mass daily. Michael was a true believer in God and spent much of his day in prayer.
Anyone who knew Michael, loved him. He made an impact on all who crossed his path. He was a people person and one of his greatest joys was spending time with and talking to others. Michael chose professions that allowed him to do just that, as a small business owner, salesman, and hairdresser. He was passionate about his work and well respected by his colleagues. He also enjoyed cooking meals for his family and friends, making sure no one left the house hungry or empty handed with a meal for the next day. Throughout his life, Michael greatly enjoyed playing and watching ice hockey, never giving up on his New Jersey Devils even through terrible seasons. He was a proud father and Nonno, always supporting and spending time with his children and grandchildren. The special relationship he had with all of them was apparent.
Michael was predeceased by his parents Biase and Maria Spezzacatena. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lucy, and their three daughters, Michelle Spezzacatena, Danielle Moran (Dan), and Jennifer Quinn (Daniel) and his three grandchildren Teresa and Maria Moran, and Jameson Quinn.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 PM to 8 PM at St. Paul R.C. Church, 200 Wyckoff Avenue, Ramsey. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 7, 2023 at 10 AM at St. Paul R.C. Church in Ramsey. Cremation will be private.
