Micheline "Peggy" Gloria (Breglie) Girald

Micheline Gloria Girald, known to all as Peggy, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2022 at the age of 99. Peggy was born on June 7,1923 in Brooklyn, NY to Michael Breglie and Maria Gallo Breglie. She was predeceased by her husband Harold and her four sisters; Lillian, Helen, Gilda and Elsie.   Mother to John Girald and his wife Nancy and Geraldine Duffy and her husband William. Grandmother to John Michael Girald and his wife Kristin, Jesse Girald and his wife Megan, Patrick Duffy and his wife Alexandra, Colleen Duffy, Kevin Duffy and Brian Duffy.  Great-Grandmother to Ally, Liam, Wyatt, Audrey and John Harris Girald. She was blessed with a wonderful life, born to immigrant parents from Salerno, Italy who had settled in Brooklyn, NY.  The youngest of five sisters, she was always surrounded by family and friends.  Born to a suffragette she carried on that same spirit and zest for life. Her first job was a bookkeeper at Industrial Container in Brooklyn and she retained her quickness with numbers and sharp mind to the very end. She met her future husband Harry while visiting the 1939 New York World’s Fair with her best friend Margret and which ultimately led to 70 wonderful years of married life until Harry’s passing in 2017. They traveled the world together while living abroad in the UK, Bahrain, and Germany and had many great adventurers and memories. They spent the majority of their years in Closter, NJ establishing their home and family. In later years they lived in Dallas, Texas and Daytona Beach, Florida enjoying their love of golf.  They moved to Mahwah, NJ in 1989 where they loved every moment spent with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Peggy loved her time spent at the Mahwah library with friends playing dominos and scrabble. What she cherished more than anything was her love of family, cooking and a Sunday dinner of macaroni with meatballs and sausages. She always gave great advice and had a wonderful sense of fashion.  She enjoyed music and loved to sing, dance and most of all to laugh. She leaves us with great memories and will be sorely missed but it gives us great comfort to know she will be continuing her care, love and guidance from above.

Memorial visitation will be held on Monday, August 1, 2022 from 1-3 PM with a memorial service being conducted at 2 PM at Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Ave, Ramsey, NJ.
