Norbert “Norb” Rebain, 79, of Mahwah, NJ passed away peacefully on July 11th at Valley Hospital, Ridgewood, NJ, while holding the hand of his wife, Carol. They had been married for 54 years. He was the devoted father of Stephanie (Jon) of Arvada, CO and Tom (Noelle) of Phoenixville, PA and the loving grandfather of Finn, Stella, Luke and Sophie. He is also survived by his sister, Alice (Tom) of Farmington Hills, MI, his brother, Ralph, of San Francisco, CA, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Adrienne, and his brothers, Ted (Joan), Ray (Bev) and Father Dan. He also leaves behind his golfing buddy, Joe Colello, and their regular Friday tee time. Norb and his family are especially grateful to Dr. John Co, Norb’s cardiologist, for his compassion and care over the last 15 years. Norb proudly served in the Army during the Vietnam War and was a lifetime active member of VFW post 2973. A long-time member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, he served for many years as a Trustee and also as the Bingo Coordinator. Golf was his favorite sport, whether playing it, reading about it or watching the LPGA on TV or in person. An enthusiastic bowler, Norb bowled in several leagues and tournaments, earned many bowling trophies and delighted in bowling with his grandchildren. Originally from Detroit, MI, he was a long-time resident of Mahwah and was employed by the American Brake Shoe Co., Abex and Amalloy. During his retirement, he enjoyed doing Sudoku puzzles, going to State Line Diner for lunch, drinking Dunkin’ Donuts coffee, and, of course, watching the Mets games. He will be cherished in our hearts and missed forever by his family and all those who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 15, from 2-5 PM at Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Ave, Ramsey, NJ. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 16, at 10 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 47 Island Road, Mahwah, NJ. Interment will follow at Mahwah Cemetery.
