Peggy Quann Obituary

Margaret “Peggy” Teresa Quann, (90) of Mechanicsville, VA passed away with family by her side on May 17, 2025.

Born in the Bronx, New York City, on September 29, 1934, Peggy was the youngest child of Denis and Margaret (nee McGann) McElligott, who were Irish immigrants.  She was raised in a devout Irish Catholic family with her beloved siblings Mary and Tom on 138th Street.

Peggy graduated from Cathedral High School in 1952 and entered the workforce.   Peggy met Bob at a dance in 1956 and they married on October 12, 1957.  Their first apartment was on the Grand Concourse where their son was born before the move to Old Bridge, NJ, where they completed their family with the addition of their four daughters.

The family moved to Ramsey in 1973.  Despite the heartache of Bob dying in 1992, Peggy showed us how to keep living. She embraced her role as grandmother and attended as many events as possible, delighting in her grandchildren’s accomplishments. She felt blessed to meet her two great-grandchildren.

One of her core values was education and Peggy and Bob were so proud of their children’s academic accomplishments. Peggy was a lifelong learner and continued taking classes into her seventies.

Peggy was predeceased by her husband of 34 years, Bob and her beloved daughter, Eileen. Peggy was proud of her family who included Ken and Lori Quann and their daughters Megan and Kaitlin; Katherine Mason and her children Kristopher, Jessica and Mikayla; Veronica Pujals and her children Michelle and John (Jessica);  and Maureen and Mark Pollard and their daughters Caroline and Catherine.  She was great-grandma to Owen and Amelia Pujals. She will be missed by nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Peggy was an active parishioner of St. Paul’s Church, Ramsey for 45 years where she embraced her faith as a eucharistic minister, helping at the homeless shelter, the annual rummage sale and enjoyed the friendship of the 106 Club. She was a longtime volunteer at Valley Hospital. She worked at Western World Insurance Co. for over 25 years.

Peggy had made Virginia her home for several years and enjoyed all the southern hospitality.  Peggy especially loved the annual family gathering at the Jersey shore.  Her sense of wonder and appreciation for everything in life is an inspiration and her love will be remembered forever by all those blessed to know her.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Virginia for their kindness and care during the last month of Peggy’s life.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 from 6-8 PM at Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Ave, Ramsey, NJ.  A funeral mass celebrating Peggy’s life and faith will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at 10 AM at St. Paul R.C. Church, Ramsey, NJ.  Interment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Cathedral High School, NY, NY (https://cathedralhs.org/donate) honoring Peggy’s life and legacy.
