Raymond James "Jamie" Dator

Raymond James “Jamie” Dator, 79, of Mahwah, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2025. Born on May 21, 1946, in New York, NY, Jamie was the beloved son of the late Frank and Yvonne (Simpson) Dator, brother to William (Linda) and Darryl.  Father to Michele Dator and Erin Darienzo (Gregory), grandfather to Anabelle, Owen, Chloe and Brian. Uncle to Lisa, Rebecca, Will, Kathryn and Michael.  A friend to many, he will be remembered for his unwavering generosity, his deep love for others, and his lifelong dedication to his community.   

Jamie began his life of service early, devoting over 25 years to the Mahwah Ambulance Corps and Mahwah Fire Co. No. 1. Professionally, he worked as an insurance agent, real estate agent, and appraiser. Yet, his heart always belonged to the land—he found true fulfillment tending to his farm and caring for the animals he loved so dearly. As the proud owner of Mahrapo Farm, Jamie helped establish the Bergen County Horse Rescue, and he was their biggest supporter, continuing his legacy of kindness and support for people and animals alike.  

Known for his generous spirit and boundless compassion, Jamie believed in helping others however he could—offering a hand, a kind word, or simply his presence. He was a man who gave without expectation and inspired others to follow his example.  

In his younger years, Jamie enjoyed riding his dirt bike and attending NASCAR races. He also was an avid fan of car shows.  In his later years, he continued to be a lifelong NASCAR fan, never missing a race on TV. He did not go a day without watching his favorite videos of large machines digging.
