Richard Ascolese Jr. Obituary

Richard P. Ascolese Jr., passed away peacefully on June 23, 2025 at the age of 75. A resident of Clermont, Florida, he was born July 15,1949 in Jersey City, NJ, raised in Bergenfield, NJ and raised his family in New Milford, NJ before retiring to Florida.

Predeceased by his parents, Richard P. Ascolese Sr. and Katherine E. (Marsicovetere) Ascolese and his wife of over 46 years Ida Rose (Cauca) Ascolese. He leaves behind his sons Michael (Stephanie) Ascolese and Christopher (Michelle) Ascolese. He was a loving Pop Pop to his beautiful grandchildren Jessica, Nicholas, Nicolette and Justin Ascolese.

Richard is also survived by his sister Donna Ascolese, brothers Gary (Marguerite) Ascolese and Dan (Therese) Ascolese. Beloved uncle to Brian, Kevin, Eric, and Matthew Ascolese, Christine Broski, Joseph Casale and all their families. Great brother-in-law, cousin and friend to many.

Richard attended St. Joseph Regional High School in Montvale and received his BS from Seton Hall University and during his college days he worked at the US Post Office in Bergenfield. After college graduation, he continued working for the US Postal Service and entered the US Postal Inspection Service, which is where he spent his career until retirement 20 years ago. His career took him all over the United States, Europe, Canada, China, Russia, the Caribbean and South America. He enjoyed the challenges of the career he chose working mail fraud cases both in the US and overseas, investigating ticket fraud cases in New York City and throughout New Jersey and training of fellow inspectors. Upon retirement, he consulted for the Swiss Government and remained friends with his colleagues of the Postal Service and NARPI. Later he moved to Clermont, FL and served on the board of the Kings Ridge Community where he resided.

Rick or Rich, depending on when you met him, was a long-time sports fan. He played golf, pitched for numerous softball teams, was a volunteer with the Bergenfield PAL, CYO Adult Advisor, baseball coach, bowler, sports announcer and diehard NY Yankee and Giant fan. He was the one to advise you on taxes, computers, iPhones, timeshares and travel. His love of photography and travel and in recent years Ancestry, kept him busy in his free time. As a photographer, Rick took many wedding, communion, ordination and birthday party photos and videos. There wasn’t a time when you wouldn’t receive a text or email with a photo anywhere from Cooperstown to a beach, Air Force One, a cruise ship and last but not least, strolling the parks of Disney while travelling to one of his timeshares, that family and friends enjoyed. He also enjoyed the company of his childhood classmates and friends, as they gathered annually.
